With help of SAEMC, in February starts air decontamination in Buenos Aires
Wednesday, 07 January 2009

Although without reaching the levels of cities like Mexico City and Santiago, the pollution of the air of Buenos Aires, especially in the City Center, is a serious threat to health. The emissions of different gases, especially the "black smoke" (particulate matter), are increasing but there is no accurate measurement of the most affected spots of the city, nor the type of pollutant. Finally Mauricio Macri, the Head of Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, announces that will operate 42 air monitoring towers at strategic sites, as a first step to outline a strategy that serves decontamination.

SAEMC project is taking an active participation on this topic via the work undertaken by the Argentina Team, interviewed by the nationwide newspaper Perfil.
